Aims

To explore what education has to do with compassion in healthcare

To consider...

  • The role of narrative and time in the formation of compassion via humanities subjects such as philosophy, literature and theology
  • The significance of role modelling, leadership and educational relationships
  • The influence of law and politics on the ethos of healthcare
  • Research in educational practice

Objectives

  • To develop research and knowledge exchange between healthcare, philosophy, theology and other humanities disciplines around the theme of compassion 
  • To support doctors, nurses, managers and others working in healthcare in understanding and practicing compassion
  • To encourage policy thinking about resilience and compassion in healthcare institutions
